Fleurs de Rousillion

Roussillon and its natural ochre deposits make the entire town like a beautiful painting. About 1,300 people live in this French village, and the whole town is warm shades of yellow, orange, red, and brown. Roussillon is in an especially ochre-rich area. There are exposed outcroppings of ochre, and the town itself is mostly shades of yellow, orange, and red.

After a recent visit, I was inspired to experiment with these pigments. A new technique using powdered pigments and spraying water resulted in beautiful watercolor movement on the canvas.
